The Iona Chaplain

The Iona academic year runs September - June 
JOB DESCRIPTION
  • Attends all 10 weekend sessions at Camp Allen (Friday afternoon through Sunday after lunch) to establish trust among the students and to be available to offer pastoral care (emotional, spiritual, and social support).
  • Attends virtual weekly Iona staff meetings (one hour) to keep abreast of Iona news, challenges, and changes.
  • Is available to students between sessions via text or phone.
  • Sends welcome notes to all students in August.  Sends notes of encouragement as needed, as well as Christmas/Easter cards.
  • Prays regularly for the school, the staff, and the students and especially develops ways of letting the students know they are supported in prayer.
  • May be asked to instruct a ministry course, periodically, based on school need and Chaplain’s knowledge, skills and area of expertise.
  • Serves with the deans in debriefing students who officiate and preach at chapel services.
  • Attends June end-of-year meeting to evaluate instructors, procedures, and systems.​

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Listening skills
  • Availability for Iona weekends
  • Experience in ministry and ministry-related issues
  • ​Experience as a chaplain in some capacity is desirable
  • Ordained Episcopal clergy, preferred

This is a part-time position. Iona School weekends are held in-person at Camp Allen, near Navasota, Texas.
